Charlie Kirk, founder of Turning Point USA, was fatally shot during a speaking event at Utah Valley University in Orem, Utah, on September 10, 2025. The shooting occurred around 12:20 p.m. local time when Kirk was addressing an audience of approximately 3,000 people in the university’s outdoor courtyard. The assailant fired a single shot from a rooftop approximately 200 yards away, striking Kirk in the neck. He was immediately transported to Timpanogos Regional Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The Utah Department of Public Safety and the FBI are leading the investigation, which is being treated as a targeted attack. Investigators are analyzing security footage from the campus, which shows a suspect dressed in all dark clothing. However, the quality of the footage has limited the ability to obtain a more detailed description. Two individuals were initially detained for questioning but were later released after law enforcement found no connection to the shooting. The FBI continues to seek the public’s assistance in providing any information, photos, or videos related to the incident.
The event had heightened security, with six university police officers present in addition to Kirk’s personal security detail. Despite these measures, the shooter managed to carry out the attack from a concealed position. Authorities are working to identify the suspect and determine the motive behind the assassination.
